Well, I defaulted on Biggles Holiday Airdrop and CIEX. I have finished my fffx assignement, though! (Also I'm up as a pinch hit there, nr 72 for the win: All For The Game - Nora Sakavic, Biggles Series - W. E. What is Small Web September?

Small Web September (is it too early for an abbreviation? Feel free to use SWS for short xD) is a chill, friendly and open event for anyone who'd like to make progress on their small web project(s) to join and share ideas, trade tips, and post progress. A small web project can be anything from a personal site/indie archive or shrine to a webring or directory, a list of resources you wanted to create, a coding how-to, maybe a set of icons or badges - the sky's the limit! As long as it's small web-related (by the definition helpfully offered in our comm intro post), it's suitable and we'd love you to join and work on it during SWS.

I signed up to fffx for the first time and this morning I got an email from modzilla (the event mod). The Fear(TM). It was fine! Just somebody with questions regarding one of my requests but still. I was not prepared, lol.

Anyway, I wasn't originally going to sign up, but I finished all my exchange fics back in June, which was very nice in July, but now I'm just kind of going 'but... but... fic... deadline... where?' all the time. Like, I've done (counting the ones I've finished but which are technically not over yet) like 12 exchanges so far this year and the break was nice, but now I'm bored.

A reminder to myself, fandomgiftbasket is still going, so do that too!

On that note, I have a mystery gift from fandomgiftbasket! I'm very excited, I requested like 8 different fandoms so no idea what it's gonna be. I also got a delightful All for the Game, Jean/Andrew/Neil fic for rarepairexchange. I do feel bad because I've still not read either of my gifts from fandom5k, but they're Long, and I just don't have the emotional wherewithal right now, sigh.

I started watching Meet You at the Blossom on Viki, a BL cdrama which I really like so far! But every other episode Stuff Happens and I have to write a fluffy fic to heal my heart before I can keep watching, so I've written two fics today and am working on the third while I work up the courage to watch episode six. (Stuff has Happened. Things have been done. Shit Is About To Go Down, I'm pretty sure.)

(Like, regarding fffx, I'm dubious about my ability to write a 10k fic, but I'm fairly sure I can do two 5k fics, so I plunged in headfirst, lmao.)

Anyway, I still need to write (check's notes) 8.6k words by midnight tomorrow to hit this week's writing goal, so please excuse me while I panic. (This post was definitely not a moment of procrastination, why would you... I mean... why-why-why... ehem, why would you think that?)

• * = I feel like I remember seeing somewhere that this exchange won't run this year, but don't know where so it's still listed in order. Hopefully I'm wrong! :D
• NF = not found (i.e. I did not find the information I was looking for)
• Aprox Dates = equal the last known dates listed on the exchange's official sites and may not be accurate. Some of them are from 2023, and some from 2024. In addition, the end dates are based on when works/assignments are due (the deadlines), not when the exchange officially is meant to end, i.e. before works/creators are revealed. It's also not uncommon for the end of exchanges to be delayed due to waiting for pinch hits to come in.

• flashexchanges is a comm where anybody can host or advertise a flash exchange (exchanges with really short creation periods, like only a week or so, and with low minimum requirements.)

There will be no highadrenalineexchange on my part this year. I've done the math, and I simply do not have enough words in the bank for it.

The benefit of knowing exactly how many words I'll write every week this month is that I know pretty exactly how much I'll end up writing—if I succeed, that is—in the whole of May. I get it to 48k words. That's a lot!

But.

I just wrote a 10k ogfic (that is never going to see the light of day) in a single week. I started it and completed it in a single week. 10k words. I just proved to myself that I can in fact write a 10k fic in a single week—which was 95% of my motivation to do highadrenalineexchange.

So that's 10k used already. I want to write 25k words on my original novel this month (that way it'll reach 75k words this month, which sounds very awesome). That's 35k words used/reserved. Plus I need 1k each for bitesizedfandomsex and hurtcomfortex and 5k words for fandom5k which I did not end up pulling out of. That's 42k words.

48-42=6

The math does not add up.

Admittedly the deadline for highadrenalineexchange is Jun 2, so I could write 6k words before that and the rest in Junw. Admittedly also the deadline for fandom5k is even after that, and I could write that entirely in June, freeing up enough words to write highadrenalineexchange entirely in May.

However both of those options means that basically all words in the bank will be reserved for something or other, and I don't want that. I don't like the idea of having no room for spontaneity; simply sitting down and spamming out a 2k fic on the spot because I felt like it and it brought me joy. I don't want all my words to be reserved for Official Projects with Deadlines or whatnot, or be used for somebody else. I want something left for myself, like how I just wrote that ogfic and had a blast and it was just for me.

Also, I don't like those margins of errors. Considering how tough I've found bitesizedfandomsex (let's just say defaulting is on the table) and hurtcomfortex (which I have not started on) so far, it's entirely possible I'll just go for the minimum wordcount requirement on both, but what if they end up being longer? I want some margin for a fic growing legs and running away from me, you know.

And again, most of my motivation for highadrenalineexchange was just... is this something I can do? It was the idea of challenging myself and going for something I've never managed to do before.

And I just did it.

Challenge won.

So... yeah, right now it feels like most of my enthusiasm for highadrenalineexchange is gone.

Finally finished the 10k Attic fic I started like 2 months ago, lol. I basically went 'it'd sure be fun if my 10th Attic fic is 10k words' and then I did it. (It's a ghost romance, because I'm weak for ghosts <3)

I also wrote a MDZS fic for the Money Bags Flash Exchange. (And received 2 fics; one original and one MDZS!)

Also we're approaching the end of smallfandombang! My fic goes up on the 17th, I am so excited! :D

Which means... time to commit to new things, lmao. So I've signed up to bitesizedfandomsex and unconventionalcourtship. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to talk about what I'm writing for unconventionalcourtship, since it's not an exchange? But basically I'm still in the stage of trying to decide what blurb to write for. I do know the fandom though! (Can I talk about it or not, lol???)

I also signed up to latetreatbonanza, lol.

smallfandomfest also starts up again in May, so I'm very excited. The prompting period goes first, so maybe. Somebody. Has an Attic prompt or two to toss up? Because I'm not particularly interested in filling my own prompts, lol. But I do also have a bunch of prompts I've already got my eye on from the last round, so I'm not exactly hurting. (It's been going for a While. There are like 6k prompts now.)

I still plan to sign up for highadrenalineexchange but I probably won't do fandom5k unless the deadlines really work for me. So much stuff already, sigh.
